Southampton Itchen has the worse case of cladding on high rise buildings that are a fire risk to residents living inside them in Hampshire. This is a scandal. Residents are facing hikes in insurance premiums, billed extreme costs for remediation and cannot move out of their homes. Residents are trapped in their own homes. This is not okay and I am campaigning to end this scandal once and for all.
Across the country, up to 3 million people have been caught up in the cladding scandal, with 23% of those affected reporting thought of suicide or self harm. All of this is happening as the UK’s five biggest developers have made a total £10bn in profit since the Grenfell tragedy. This is unacceptable.
This will not be a quick and easy fix, which is why this must be a huge national effort led by the Government. Leaseholders deserve to wake up in their home that is not a firetrap with unaffordable bills landing through their door. That is why I am backing the ‘End Our Cladding Scandal’ campaign aims.
