More Bobbies on the Beat

Southampton has one of the highest crime rates in the South. Violent crime and anti-social behaviour is a growing concern across the city.

But while crime goes up, visible policing has all but vanished. Police response times are slower, fewer crimes are being solved and residents rightly ask: where are the officers?

Too often, it feels like we’re being ignored while resources are funnelled elsewhere. New funding for policing from the Labour Government is being awarded straight to our local police force, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary. I want to make sure Southampton is given it’s fair share and not sent off to communities with low crime but vote for the Tory Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones.

It needs to be communities first, politics second.

Labour’s Action plan: visible, local policing

We need to rebuild trust, tackle crime, and get more Bobbies back on the beat.

Labour’s new Neighbourhood Police Guarantee:

  • Recruit 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs.

  • Guarantee named, contactable officers in every area.

  • Restore regular patrols in local crime hotspots.

  • Use new powers to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

This summer, I’m campaigning across Southampton to make sure your voice is heard and to call on the Police and Crime Commissioner to put local people first.

We all deserve to feel safe where we live – and that starts with more police you can see and trust.

We’re calling on Donna Jones, the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner, to start delivering for the communities she represents.
